The perception/cognition distinction

چکیده
The difference between perception and cognition seems introspectively obvious in many cases. Perceiving thinking have also been assigned quite different roles, epistemology, theories of reference mental content, philosophy psychology, elsewhere. Yet what is the nature distinction? In way, or ways, do differ? paper reviews recent work on these questions. Four main respects which held to differ are discussed. First, their phenomenal character, such as often-remarked vivacity immediacy perception. Second, way they represent world, e.g. non-propositional contents, non-discursive character vehicles, that characterise perceptual representation. Third, place cognitive architecture, i.e., roughly, information-flow mind, alleged (non-)modularity. Fourth, mind-world relations, perceptions seem be tightly causally linked with distal proximal stimuli. Against this background, we distinguish some options for an account perception/cognition distinction, particular concerning whether there one, several, no interesting principled distinction(s) drawn here.

The speech material consisted of the 15...
